Sinochem, the world's first non-petroleum route to synthesize acrylic acid

Recently, the world's first 1,000-ton/year acetic acid-formaldehyde-based acrylic acid production pilot plant, provided with process technology by Southwest Research Institute, a subsidiary of Sinochem Corporation, and Celanese Corporation, was successfully put into operation at Shandong Yankuang Lunan Chemical Co., Ltd., achieving 72-hour continuous and stable operation. This marks an important step for the green process of synthesizing acrylic acid by non-petroleum route from laboratory to industrialization in my country.

"Rich coal, lean oil, less gas" is a typical feature of my country's energy pattern. The process route of "coal-based instead of petroleum-based" acetic acid formaldehyde method to produce acrylic acid is a green and innovative process route, which can effectively reduce the dependence on petroleum and reduce the production cost of acrylic acid due to fluctuations in international oil prices. The downstream industrial chain with acetic acid and acetic acid as raw materials provides a new growth point for the coal chemical industry.

Acrylic acid is an important intermediate between bulk petrochemical products and downstream fine chemicals, mainly used in construction, textile, daily chemicals, water treatment, petroleum metallurgy and other fields.
