Performance requirements: Biodegradable plastics and products' organic content should be ≥51%

With the implementation of "plastic ban" and "plastic restriction" in various places, the promotion of degradable materials, especially biodegradable plastics, in express delivery and daily life is an effective way to reduce environmental pollution.

On November 26, 2021, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Administration issued the "GB∕T 41010-2021 Biodegradable Plastics and Products Degradability and Labeling Requirements", which will be officially launched on June 1, 2022 Implement.

This document specifies the degradation performance and labeling requirements of biodegradable plastics and products. The performance of specific products other than the degradation performance should meet the requirements of the product standard. Suitable for all kinds of biodegradable plastics and products, such as: natural polymer materials, synthetic polymers, materials containing additives such as plasticizers, pigments or other compounds, mixtures of the above materials, and products processed from biodegradable materials .

Regarding the degradation performance requirements, it is stipulated that the organic content (volatile solid content) of biodegradable plastics and products should be greater than or equal to 51%.

Biodegradation rate requirements: the relative biodegradation rate should be greater than or equal to 90%, and the absolute biodegradation rate of a single organic component with a component greater than or equal to 1% in the material should be greater than or equal to 60%; if the biodegradable plastic and the product are mixed or If it is composed of multiple materials, the organic components with a component of less than 1% should also be biodegraded, but it is not necessary to provide a proof of ability, and the total sum of the components with a component of less than 1% should be less than 5%.

Note: For organic ingredients with a component greater than or equal to 1%, the biodegradability certificate, such as an inspection report, should be provided; for organic ingredients with a component content of less than 1%, the biodegradability can be provided with a corresponding product inspection report or a self-declaration by the company.
